About - TESTAMENT PROJECT

Across European history, many people sought to decide what would happen to their property after death. Yet this freedom was often limited—by strict formalities, legal restrictions, obstacles to enforcement, and competing interests. TESTAMENT investigates these tensions through interdisciplinary, comparative research and doctoral training.

What we do:

01

Develop a new analytical model to understand dynamics of freedom and oppression in the post-mortal transfer of property.

02

Study these dynamics through six PhD case studies, grouped into three research work packages.

03

Create impact beyond academia by working with archives and museums, publishing open materials, and engaging non-expert audiences.
